Are you aged between 18 and 35? We need you!

We’re looking for young adults to help shape our charity for the coming months and years. Here, our director Patrick O’Dowd, tells us more…

There have been a lot of exciting developments at Caritas recently.

We’re proud to have launched new services or projects and to have worked alongside even more people than ever before in our local communities.

We’re proud to have watched individuals and organisations across Greater Manchester and Lancashire take on a huge range of activities and challenges or make kind and generous donations so our work alongside people experiencing poverty, homelessness and disadvantage can continue.

And now, for the first time in our history, we’re excited that we’re recruiting two representatives aged 18-35 years (as defined by the Catholic Church as ‘young adults’), in a volunteer opportunity to join our governance committee as co-opted members. (Co-opted members are typically appointed to add specific skills, expertise or representation to a board, but don’t have the full responsibilities in charity law as other board members).

But why, and why now?

Our charity works alongside vulnerable people of all ages and backgrounds in our community and we’re committed to bringing fresh perspectives.

It’s really important to us that we build meaningful outreach and strengthen our connection to diverse communities across Greater Manchester and Lancashire. We’re hoping that our two new volunteer board members will help us to do just that – to shape our strategies and make sure we can continue meeting the needs of the people we work alongside.

Bringing the voices of young adults into the decision-making process will also help us make sure our strategies and services are inclusive, innovative and impactful.

Whether those people have direct experience of the challenges we tackle – poverty, homelessness, disadvantage, displacement, and discrimination – or whether they simply have a passion for social justice, the insights they gave will hopefully help us build even stronger connections with local communities.

We’d love to hear from you if you think you could help.
