The amazing impact of our local schools during Lent

We’re so appreciative of all of the amazing schools in Greater Manchester and Lancashire who are taking part in our St Joseph’s Penny appeal this year. 

Thousands of children, young people and teachers are collecting their change to help change a life this Lent. 

Every coin added really does make a huge difference and could mean we can work alongside even more people in our area who are experiencing poverty, discrimination, homelessness and disadvantage. 

Did you know…? 

Last year, our diocesan schools taking part in the St Joseph’s Penny appeal raised money which could provide: 

• 6,875 personal care packs, meaning that people who come to Caritas for support have toiletries they need. This might include toothbrush and paste, shower gel, deodorant, period products and shaving items.  

• 2,200 energy top up cards, so that householders do not have to make the terrible choice between eating or heating. 

• 500 weekly food shops. Feeding your family is tough when you have no money but even worse if you are caught up in a crisis such as illness, bereavement or fear of eviction. 

• 37 sponsored rooms, providing safe, supported accommodation for a year and preventing around 150 people from being homeless. 

We never take your support for granted so are really grateful to all of the schools, children, young people, teachers, families and others in our local community who ensure our work can continue thanks to the kindness of your actions.
