This Lent, will you make a change to change a life?

Whether you’re making a change to your diet, fasting, amending your behaviour or adapting your thoughts and focus…as you pray, fast and give this Lent the change you’re making could also help us to change a life.

By remembering Caritas Salford during Lent, your donations and prayers will make a real difference to the lives of the local people in Greater Manchester and Lancashire that we support – people in our local communities facing poverty, disadvantage, homelessness and isolation.

Will you make a change to help them to change their lives with dignity?

What are your memories of St Joseph’s Penny?

We’re really proud that St Joseph’s Penny appeal has been running in our diocese for more than 100 years.

It was established to encourage children to donate one penny to others who were in need of a helping hand.

We’re proud to keep the ethos of the appeal alive more than a century later, thanks to the kindness of people across Greater Manchester and Lancashire who still take part.

  • Do you have memories of the St Joseph’s Penny appeal over the years?
  • Did you do this as a child and now your own children or grandchildren take part?
  • Perhaps your school or community group has been part of it for many years?

We’d love to hear your memories! Click the orange button below…

Ways you can get involved

There are lots of ways you can get involved to  support people in your community…

And please…do get in touch if you have any more ideas about how you could support the appeal and help people change their lives this Lent.

Where the money raised goes

It costs £12,000 per day to provide the level of service and support being delivered in Caritas projects across Greater Manchester and Lancashire.

Which means that everyone who needs it is able to access urgent practical help required, as well as any advice and support that will help them for the long term.

Every single donation matters because it means nobody is turned away or left behind.

These are just some examples of how your donation could be used to provide critical support – right now – or help someone begin to transform their own life with dignity.
