We recently shared a story about Gary and his dog Darcy and people have been sharing how much they loved hearing about them.

So, for all those dog lovers, we thought we’d share another interview today, this time featuring Aaron and Jean who often come along to our Red Door Centre with their dog, Luna.

Here, they tell us a bit more about what Luna means to them, and why they’re happy that she’s welcome at Red Door…

How long have you had a dog?

We’ve have had Luna since she was a puppy.

What does your dog mean to you?

Luna is our baby she means the world to us. We wouldn’t be without her.

She keeps us fit by going on walks. We are lucky that we can take her on the weekly oraganised walks on a Tuesday with Red Door. They even make sure she has water for the walk.

Why do you think some homeless people have dogs? Do you think that it affects people’s opportunities to get off the streets?

We need Luna, she is our best friend. You can always tell your troubles and fears to her with no judgement.

Having an animal definitely limited us when we were looking for accommodation, especially within temporary accommodation.

Have you tried to access other services with your dog? Have you ever been refused by any service due to having a dog?

There are lots of places where they don’t let dogs in, such as food banks and various centres.  We think some places are afraid of dogs. It’s easier for us as there are two of us so one can stay outside with Luna.

Thanks to Aaron and Jean – and to Luna too.  We can’t wait to see you at the next Red Door wellbeing walk!
