The season of Lent is a time for reflection. It’s a time when many of us decide to make changes.

Here, our director, Patrick O’Dowd, asks how those changes could truly make a difference this year…

Praying, fasting, giving. Lent is a real opportunity to reset. To take time out and consider how our actions make a difference. To think about ways we can be an even greater support to those around us. To extend a helping hand, give alms and keep those people who need assistance or are facing crisis in our communities support.

This year, as Lent approaches, we are again asking – will you please join us in helping spread positive action? Will you please make a change, however big or small, that will help to change a life?

Our teams across our services that reach into communities right across Greater Manchester and Lancashire see people in urgent need of support every day.

People who have suddenly become homeless. Children who need support after a bereavement. Families who aren’t able to provide food or a warm room for their children to sleep in. People who never imagined they would be in crisis situations come to us for help – help we provide at that time of acute crisis, but also for the long-term too as we work alongside them to transform their lives with dignity.

We can only do that thanks to your support.

So, whether you’re making a change to your diet, fasting, changing your behaviour or focus…any change you’re pledging could also help us work alongside local people at a time they need it most. Step by step. Helping create tangible change that makes all the difference.

Thinking about how we are supporting people in our communities is really important, especially at this time of year. And by remembering Caritas Salford this Lent, your donations and prayers will matter so, so much to the individuals and families we work with.

Will you please pledge to make a change to help them to change their lives with dignity?
