General election letter from Bishop John Arnold
As we approach the general election on 4th July, Bishop John Arnold, Bishop of Salford and chair of our board of trustees, has written a letter to the people of Salford diocese. In his message, Bishop John emphasises the profound privilege and responsibility of voting, urging us to engage deeply with the issues at stake.
He reminds us that voting is not only a right but also considered a duty, and as such he encourages us to look deeply at the issues affecting people’s lives and focus on several critical issues including respect for human dignity, education, peace and reconciliation, the sanctity of life, poverty eradication, criminal justice, care for our planet, international relations, and the plight of migrants and refugees.
Bishop John also stresses the importance of choosing candidates who promote positive relationships and social cohesion while opposing racial and religious hatred.
As many of us begin to complete postal votes or prepare to cast our votes in person, we encourage all people to consider Bishop John’s call to action, using this opportunity to shape a society that reflects our shared values and works for the common good of all.
