Caritas ambassadors in Blackburn call for positive change
Do you know someone who would enjoy this article?
We’re so thrilled to have so many young people who are Caritas ambassadors in their school. The ambassadors, who are in schools across Greater Manchester and Lancashire, take action, rooted in Catholic Social Teaching, in their local community to help support others and call out injustice, advocating for tangible change.
We were pleased to hear about the Caritas ambassadors from Our Lady of Perpetual Succour RC Primary School in Blackburn who, in the run up to World Day of Migrants and Refugees this weekend, have written an open letter to their MP to call for positive action.
The letter, which you can read below, highlights some of the things that the young people believe are unfair in our world, and was written alongside a range of other activities in the school, including assemblies about our Global Family and the refugee crisis. The ambassadors led the work and also created a special school display.
Using the phrase ‘It’s not fair’, the group wrote a series of prayers and also created drawings, mini statements and symbols of love to share.
Recognising the power of speaking out, the group then wrote a letter to their local MP which we believe is incredibly powerful.
Well done to everyone involved. We love to hear about what our Caritas ambassadors are doing and how they are taking positive action to bring about tangible change.
Thank you all.
Read the letter from the ambassadors below:
Hello we are the Caritas ambassadors from Our Lady’s primary school, we encourage everyone to live like Jesus, love like Jesus and put our faith into action.
This half term we have been speaking out against injustices in our world.
We think it is unfair when people have to leave their homes because of war, when they don’t have any water or food and when they are made fun of for their beliefs.
We believe everyone should receive their fair share of kindness, love and peace. We believe everyone should have access to clean water, food and shelter.
We humbly ask that when you are making decisions, you consider the needs of those who are most in need in our communities. We ask that you take pity on those who are seeking refuge and treat them with fairness and kindness.
Our Catholic Social Teaching principles teach us that everyone is entitled to their fair share and that we should treat everyone with dignity and respect.
Please find attached a picture of our school display: Prayers for our Global Family.
This display was created by the children in our school and it includes: prayers for those most in need, images and statements of things that we find unfair in our world.
Kind regards,
The Caritas ambassadors & Miss O’Dea
