Stepping out for others…

So many people from our Caritas community are taking part in Every Step challenges to raise much-needed funds to help us support local people.
Here, Kirstie, who is part of our fundraising team here at Caritas Salford, tells us more about a challenge that’s coming up very soon…

On 14 September, I’m participating in a 14km sponsored hike in the lovely Lancashire countryside around beautiful Whalley. This is to raise funds for children and adults locally who are experiencing homelessness, poverty and discrimination.
In the Lancashire area, on average, 45% of children are living in poverty. That’s nearly every other child in a classroom. In the first three months of this year, over 1,500 families/individuals in that area were threatened with losing their homes.
In preparation for this hike, my personal trainer, Ellie, has been dragging me up hill and down dale, in pursuit of mummy gaining the best physical shape to take on this challenge.
We started with easy walks because, for years, I have suffered with planta fasciitis, making any sort of walking an excruciating experience.
Finally, this week, I have managed to walk an incredible 16 miles (all in one go!) over Disley and Whaley Bridge and the Stalybridge/Hobson Moors. And let me tell you, it was hilly!
This hasn’t been the easiest of tasks for poor Ellie but her Sgt Major role (which she seemed to enjoy rather too much) kept us motivated. I think…
So please, I would be incredibly grateful if you could donate the price of a coffee or a beer towards my sponsorship. Just think about those poor kids who are growing up in such worrying circumstances. www.justgiving.com/page/fundraisingteam
Thank you.
