Do you know someone who would enjoy this article?

It is with great sadness that we share the news that Sister Lucy Dunne, a member of the Franciscan Missionaries of St Joseph, passed away peacefully on 10 April 2026.

Sister Lucy was a deeply loved, wise and compassionate presence in the life of Caritas Salford. Over many years of service at the Cornerstone centre in Manchester, she walked tirelessly alongside people experiencing homelessness, poverty and isolation with extraordinary care and commitment.

Rooted in her Franciscan vocation, Sister Lucy had a rare gift for recognising the dignity and worth of each person she encountered. Through her quiet leadership, generosity of spirit and unwavering compassion, she helped Cornerstone grow in its capacity to respond to increasing need, while remaining a place of welcome and belonging for so many.

Countless lives were changed through her kindness, her listening and her steadfast presence.

Sister Lucy’s legacy is one of love in action. She showed us what it means to accompany others with humility, courage and deep respect, always putting others first and never seeking recognition for herself.

We give thanks for her life, her faith and her service. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, her religious community and all who knew and loved her.

As we continue our work alongside people across our diocese, we do so inspired by Sister Lucy’s example, carrying forward her commitment to dignity, compassion and justice.

As we read in the Gospel of John, “In my Father’s house there are many rooms.” We trust that the loving Father whom Sister Lucy served so faithfully has prepared a place of rest for her.

She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon her.
May she rest in peace. Amen.”

For those wishing to attend Sr Lucy’s funeral, the Requiem Mass will take place at 10am on Thursday 23 April 2026 at St Patrick’s, Collyhurst, Manchester.  All are welcome to attend.
