As families across Greater Manchester and Lancashire feel the continued pressures of the cost of living crisis, we’ve produced a new downloadable guide of school uniform banks and support schemes now available to all schools across the Diocese of Salford.
With inflation continuing to push household budgets to breaking point, many parents are finding it increasingly difficult to afford the full cost of year‑round school uniforms, with data showing families often spend around £340 per child annually on them. Multiple child households face even heavier burdens.
To help alleviate this pressure, we’ve created the new resource which lists all uniform banks and assistance programmes in the area.
It equips schools with clear guidance on how families can access help, either via referrals from school support teams or through self‑referral. We’re also urging parents to donate clean, outgrown uniform items to their local uniform banks and support schemes.
How schools can use the resource:
-
Share the resource via newsletters, emails, social media and on school websites.
-
Encourage giving, highlighting that even small donations of items like shirts, jumpers or shoes can make a big difference.
