“It’s not that hard”: Rachel on being there at Christmas
This year, as part of our Advent appeal, we’re asking how you will Bee There for others this Christmas.
Here, Rachel from our fundraising team tells us more about what the festive season means to her…
How will you Bee There for others this Christmas?
I’m trying to ‘bee’ truly present for people who want to talk. Less buzzing around and more active listening!
The Advent appeal this year includes our bee characters in a special animation featuring television adverts. What would your TV advertising slogan or campaign be to help encourage people to #BeeThere this Christmas?
“It’s not that hard.” Thomas, one of the children who voiced last year’s bees, said those words, and it moved me to tears. A child’s wisdom demonstrates that, even the smallest act of love and generosity, can make a remarkable difference. Our #BeeThere campaign and its virtual gift catalogue try to demonstrate that too, by encouraging small steps of kindness and including ideas for donations to suit all pockets.
What changes would you like to see to help people in your community this Christmas?
Perhaps to think twice: does our home really need that extra box of Christmas chocolates?… all of those Christmas presents under the tree? …another set of Christmas fairy lights? Could we, instead, choose a virtual gift and make a donation for a local family or person who is struggling with their bills this year?
What is the true meaning of Christmas to you, and how will you put it into action this year?
For me, the true meaning of Christmas is in remembering that God sent his only Son as a gift to the world, so that we would know His love. This Christmas, by loving my neighbour in the same way that I know I am loved.
If you’ve not yet seen our Bee There Advent appeal animation – you can watch it below now, and please donate if you can.
Every penny really does help us support more local people like those our teams work alongside in Greater Manchester and Lancashire.
Thank you.
