Caritas director recognised with special award from Pope Leo

We’re thrilled that our director, Patrick O’Dowd, has been recognised with a special award from Pope Leo.
Patrick, alongside his work leading our charity, has volunteered his time with the Salford Diocesan Lourdes Pilgrimage for more than 30 years.
In recognition of his outstanding service to the Church, the Holy Father, Pope Leo, has bestowed upon Patrick the ‘Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice’ medal.
Meaning ‘For the Church and the Pope’, and also known as the ‘Cross of Honour’ because of the distinctive insignia that comes with the award, this distinguished papal honour recognises exceptional service to the Catholic Church – rooted in Patrick’s commitment and service that have touched the lives of countless pilgrims over the years.
It’s a richly-deserved honour and we’re delighted that his commitment has been recognised in this way.
Patrick’s work, both here at Caritas and with the Lourdes pilgrimage, is rooted in support for local communities – ensuring equity of access for all and striving to make a difference with the people he walks alongside.
Everyone at Caritas is proud that he has been awarded this medal and that he has received such prestigious recognition from the Holy Father for his dedication to others.
