We join with the Church across the world in mourning the death of Pope Francis.

In his long life and service, through his ministry, writing and preaching, Pope Francis was dedicated to opening his arms to all people.  His words, “My people are poor and I am one of them”, resonate with the core purpose of our charity as we reach out to support people from across Greater Manchester and Lancashire who are experiencing poverty or discrimination and tackle its causes.

Protecting the dignity of all people was always at the heart of his work, from driving urgent action in response to the climate crisis to addressing our “throwaway culture”, the importance of embracing, supporting and welcoming everyone we encounter was pivotal.

His work to promote integral human development through the idea of an integral ecology has created a huge real-life impact, encouraging positive change for people across the world who were experiencing discrimination and crisis.  The teaching and messages in his encyclical letters will resonate with generations to come.   ‘Fratelli Tutti’ – ‘Brothers and Sisters All’ – continues to inspire many to aspire to build a better, more just and peaceful world.

As we mourn his death, we give thanks to God for the life and ministry of Pope Francis whose teaching and example continues to help shape our work in communities across Greater Manchester and Lancashire, in inspiring real tangible change and upholding the importance of human dignity at the heart of every decision we all make.
