A large part of our work is supporting people experiencing homelessness or who are at risk of homelessness. In the coming weeks, as we approach World Homeless Day in October, we’ll be shining a light on some of the ways we work alongside people to help them transform their lives.

We’re really excited that a brand new exhibition of poetry created by people at our Cornerstone and Morning Star services has been launched at HOME in Manchester city centre, where it will be live until December. You can read more about it here.

We held a special launch event to mark the opening of the exhibition, which included readings of some of the fabulous poems created by people accessing our services.

The event was a great opportunity to get together and celebrate the culmination of such a brilliant year-long project.

Arts Council England funded the project, which was devised by poet Phil Davenport, who ran morning and afternoon poetry workshops at Cornerstone for a year; the poster poems were co-created with artist Christine Johnson and some additional workshops took place at Whitworth Art Gallery and Manchester Poetry Library.

We can’t wait for as many people as possible to visit HOME to see the poster poems while they are on display.

In the meantime, here are a few photos from the event to give you a taste of what you can expect when you visit…

board that reads 100 Manchester people many affected by homelessness, created poems together at Cornerstone day centre in Hulme in a year-long collaboration with poet Phil Davenport and artist Christine Johnson. Participants shared a meal and wrote, evoking warmth, cursing the cold, and dreaming on paper. These poster poems are acts of joy in the face of adversity wishes stirred into word stews. In Manchester a third of all households are food insecure and nearly half of all those with children struggle to put food on the table. These poems represent a small part of a much bigger story. One of resilience against social injustice amid the cost of living crisis.
