Our brand new service to support homeless men in Manchester

We’re proud to have launched a brand new service aimed at helping provide much-needed support for local people experiencing homelessness.
Caritas House in Manchester, which has opened this week, provides high quality, single room accommodation with 24-hour support for 19 single homeless men.
Patrick O’Dowd, our director, explained: “We’re always keen to ensure that our services continue to meet the needs of people experiencing homelessness, poverty, displacement and disadvantage across Greater Manchester and Lancashire, and the new Caritas House supported accommodation will do just that.
“As the need for high quality places for people experiencing homelessness to live grows, it’s vital that teams of experts like ours are on hand to ensure full wrap-around support too. It’s not sufficient for people to be placed in bed and breakfasts or other unsupported places. Instead, to ensure better long-lasting outcomes, there needs to be a proper pathway out of homelessness in place.
“The team at Caritas House, like the teams at our other homelessness services too, will be there to work alongside the men, helping them to improve their health and wellbeing, develop independent living skills and ultimately move into their own tenancies too.”
Residents at Caritas House can take part in a wide range of on-site activities, and be linked in with other support services, education, training and volunteering opportunities too. All support takes place in a psychologically informed environment where people feel safe, are valued and have the time and space to develop their confidence and achieve their goals.
Patrick added: “With accessible rooms, kitchen areas, bathrooms and other facilities, Caritas House is also helping address a somewhat unmet need in our city for specialist support for people who are homeless but require accessible spaces. As a charity we welcome everyone and we’re really pleased to add Caritas House to our list of community and outreach services in Greater Manchester and Lancashire.
