A kind-hearted Caritas supporter has made a real difference to the lives of local people, by choosing our charity to benefit from her landmark birthday celebrations.
Manchester United fan Nora, who recently turned 100, chose to ask for donations to Caritas Salford in lieu of gifts, raising more than £3,000 for our charity.
She said: “Supporting Caritas jumped out as the obvious choice because of all the good work that you do.
“I’ve been through difficult situations and would like to help others in those circumstances too. I think the work you do looking after children is most important.”
Nora is the latest supporter to choose our charity by making the kind donation as a way to both celebrate a special occasion and give back too.
Rachel Taylor, our head of fundraising, said: “We’re always so appreciative of anyone who thinks of supporting people in our local communities who are experiencing poverty and homelessness, and celebration giving in this way is just one way to do that – marking a special occasion and changing the lives of local children, young people and adults at the same time.
“With demand for our services at the highest it has ever been, there are sadly too many people in Greater Manchester and Lancashire who are living not knowing where their next meal will come from or whether they will have a safe, secure place to call home each night.
“But, thanks to incredibly kind people like Nora who think of those people and want to help us take action to support them, we’re able to ensure as many as possible get the urgent support they need.
“Huge thanks Nora and a very, very happy 100th birthday to you from everyone here at Caritas Salford.”
When asked what she would say to others thinking of supporting our work by choosing to ask for donations instead of gifts at their birthday, wedding, engagement or other special event, Nora added: “We should always look out for others in life, that’s what my 100 years has taught me. Caritas helps those in need.”
