We’ve seen a significant increase in demand for our services as people face acute crisis and challenges associated with the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, so we’re asking if you can please join us for a special fundraising walk to raise vital funds.
The sponsored walk, which will take place around Whalley, Lancashire on Saturday 14th September, covers a moderately challenging route of 14km, with a shorter option available for those who prefer.
Patrick O’Dowd, our director, said: “Many people are almost becoming immune to hearing the words cost-of-living crisis talked about on the TV or online, but for many in our communities it’s something that is all too real.
“It’s not an exaggeration to say that hardworking people in our area are literally having to make decisions every day on whether they can feed their children or keep a safe, secure roof over their heads. Many never imagined they would find themselves in such a challenging situation and often it has come about for reasons beyond their control – the rising cost of living, illness or injury, no-fault evictions, the list goes on.
“As a charity we’re not immune to the rises in costs either, and it’s increasingly difficult to fundraise at the moment so we can continue to support people when they need us most.
“We need to be able to keep the doors open on our day centres, the food available for those who need it, the heating on in the accommodations we provide people who are experiencing homelessness. That’s why we’ve launched an appeal for walkers to join us for a special walk around Whalley in Lancashire this September.
“Every step will literally help us to support local people to change their lives with the dignity they deserve.”
The walk is part of our Every Step campaign which is asking people to take on a challenge in 2024 – whether mental or physical – that pushes them out of the their comfort zone.
For those unable to take on the Whalley walk, there’s a range of other activities on offer, from inflatable races to wild swimming, runs to bake sales…and everything in between. People can choose their own sponsored challenge too if they prefer.
