Health and homelessness fair success

We were excited to lead on the delivery of a very special event aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of local people experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless.
The Manchester Homeless Partnership health information fair, which took place last week, saw 48 professionals from 21 different organisations gathered together to provide help and support.
Our recent report into health and homelessness locally showed a huge disparity in the experiences and outcomes of people who are experiencing homelessness compared with the general population – which is why events like this are so important.
On the day, there was a range of stalls and activities, with a free goodie bag, refreshments and lunch for the more than 70 attendees.
One person who came along said: “I’ve picked up lots of leaflets and had my blood pressure tested and it’s a bit high, but I’ve been given advice about what to do to reduce it. I’ve also had my flu jab and I’ve had my hair cut and had a lovely lunch. So, I’m feeling much more positive and I feel really looked after. It’s been a good day.”
Patrick O’Dowd, director of our charity, said: “We know that people who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of becoming homeless have much poorer outcomes when it comes to their mental and physical health and wellbeing than those from other communities.
“It was fantastic to see so many people coming along to find out more about a wide range of services on offer, as well as taking part in activities and sessions to help them transform their experiences and increase their knowledge. We’re really grateful that so many partner organisations came along to exhibit and provide such a broad range of vital information too.
“This was the second year we have held an event like this one and we’re really pleased to see it grow in strength and popularity.
“This is just one of the many ways we support individuals and families, empowering them to transform their lives with dignity. Holistic support is key to our work and everything we do is done in partnership with those people who access our services. Thanks again to everyone involved.
“Our teams are always happy to help people, whether at a time of acute crisis, or as they change their lives for the long-term too so please get in touch if you need any support.”
