Community volunteers are people who use our services but also choose to help others by volunteering their time in the service too.
They’re a really important part of our team and bring with them really valuable insights into ways we can develop and improve the work we do too.
Here, Zak, one of our community volunteers, tells us more…
Can you please tell us a little about yourself?
I’m Zak, I am 26 from Eritrea. I love painting and doing art.
How did you become a community volunteer?
I spoke with Emma, a member of staff at the Caritas Red Door day centre in Bury and she helped me to get started.
What made you decide to volunteer in this way?
You have helped me a lot since I arrived and I wanted to help and give something back to others too.
What do you do to provide support?
I help in lots of different ways, including making drinks for everyone and cleaning up at the end of the day too.
How does volunteering make you feel and why?
It makes me happy to help and give something back.
What do you look forward to most about your volunteering sessions?
I really love seeing everybody at Red Door. It makes me happy.
What would you see to others who are thinking about volunteering?
