Celebrating the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel

Last week, it was the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, who is the patron of the Diocese of Salford.
It was a particularly significant day in the life of the diocese, which was established in 1850 following the restoration of the Catholic hierarchy in England after the Reformation.
Later, on 16 July 1942, the Diocese of Salford was formally established as a registered charity, so the feast day has an added significance in our diocesan history.
This year was even more special because the feast coincided with the reopening of Salford Cathedral following around three years of major restoration work through the ‘Restoring the Glory’ project.
As part of the celebrations, Bishop John consecrated the cathedral’s new altar, marking an important new chapter in the life of our mother church.
At Caritas, we wanted to join with our friends and parishioners across the diocese in celebrating the feast in a simple but joyful way. Throughout the day, our teams marked the occasion by sharing ice creams with the people who use our services, as well as with our amazing staff and volunteers, as a small thank you for all they do in supporting others with such dedication and compassion.
It was particularly welcome on another hot and sunny day!
