Runners, bakers and candlestick makers…get in touch!

Can you please help…?
We’re calling for people with a wide range of skills and passions to help us raise much-needed funds in 2025.
We’ve sadly seen an increased demand for our services as communities in the area continue to be hit hard and are driven closer to crisis point. We’re therefore appealing for support from anyone who feels they can take on a challenge in 2025 – whatever form that might take.
Patrick O’Dowd, our director, said: “We’re looking for runners, readers gardeners, bakers – and even candlestick makers! Whatever your passion we’d love to hear from you. All we are asking is that you choose to do something that pushes you out of your comfort zone in 2025.
“Whether a physical or mental challenge, anything goes really. We are hoping people will use their imagination to come up with inventive ways to raise funds as part of our Every Step campaign. So whether that’s reading a set number of books in a month, baking lots of cakes for a sale, walking a number of miles of your choosing, or signing up to take on the Great Manchester Run or another physical activity as part of our team, you can decide what you want to do, where and when.
“As we all reflect back on Christmas – which feels a long time ago now – and time spent with loved ones in warm homes with lots of food, the harsh reality is that many people in Greater Manchester and Lancashire simply don’t have access to the basics. No safe place to call home, no food for their family, with many never imagining they would be in this position.
“We support as many people as we can across our services based in local communities across the area, but there’s still more to do and we’re not complacent. We want to be there to help people to transform their lives with dignity and to do that we really need your help.
“That’s why we’re putting out this appeal for people who might be willing to take on the Great Manchester Run or another challenge – whether physical, mental or both – in aid of Caritas Salford this year.
“However you choose to take part, Every Step – however big or small – could help make such a difference to someone’s life. Your positive action could literally change that person’s whole future.”
The Every Step campaign challenges people to do something that pushes them out of their comfort zone to help raise awareness and funds for our charity.
As well as the Great Manchester Run, places are available in the Manchester Half Marathon and a range of other runs across the region, from Heaton Park to Aintree, Blackburn to Delamere and beyond. There’s also a range of other activities and events on offer, as well as the option for people to organise their own challenge based on their own interests or passions.
