Caritas trustee honoured with OBE
One of our trustees has been recognised in King Charles’ New Year’s Honours List this year.
Eamonn O’Neal, who is also a trustee for the Diocese of Salford, has been recognised by the King for his ‘services to charitable causes and to people with disabilities in North West England’.
Alongside his work for various charities across the area, Eamonn is also currently High Sheriff of Greater Manchester.
He said: “I’m very grateful that this honour reflects the amazing the work done by the many varied charities I’ve been associated with over the years.
“I’m so proud of the work being done by the diocese, which holds the spiritual development of all our communities close to our hearts. At Caritas Salford our vision is to support and advocate on behalf of people experiencing poverty, homelessness, displacement or other disadvantages across Greater Manchester and Lancashire. Every day we work towards helping people live a dignified life to the full. Faith in Action is one of my favourite things.
“It remains a privilege to help in whatever way I can, whether that’s a trustee, patron, chair or supporter. I’ve also been in the enviable position of working across BBC Radio Manchester, ITV Granada and the Manchester Evening News in positions that have allowed me to help publicise the amazing work done by selfless people for the benefit of communities across the North West and nationally.
“ I should mention my radio partner and brother-in-law Jimmy Wagg with whom I shared the radio airwaves for more than thirty years. During that time our loyal listeners flocked to our ‘Wow’ theatre shows and with the help of our talented and dedicated performers helped us raise a significant amount of money for charities.”
Congratulations Eamonn from everyone at Caritas Salford for this well-deserved recognition. An amazing achievement!
