A member of Caritas Staff is set to take on a very special challenge this October – taking on the Manchester half marathon to raise much-needed funds for our charity.

Bronte, who works in our services supporting people experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless, is taking on the epic challenge as part of our Every Step campaign.

The campaign is asking people from across Greater Manchester, Lancashire and beyond, to consider doing something which pushes them out of their comfort zone this year. This can be something physical or mental – anything goes as long as it is a challenge for the person taking it on.

Bronte said: “I signed up for the Every Step Challenge to run the half marathon because I wanted to raise money and give myself a personal challenge.

“In the lead up to the marathon I have been setting myself smaller challenges to raise money, including running 60 miles in June and a 5k every day in August.

“It has been really rewarding but also very mentally and physically tiring, especially as the half marathon is getting closer.  My runs are getting longer and the conditions are getting colder and wetter.

“When I lose motivation or don’t feel like running ten miles in the rain, I have to keep reminding myself who I’m raising money for, and what a privilege it is to be able to do a challenge like this.”

Patrick O’Dowd, our director, said: “It’s been amazing to see so many people joining in the Every Step campaign and taking on their challenge and I wish Bronte and everyone else taking on the Manchester Half Marathon all the best for the day.

“It takes a huge amount of preparation to take on a physical challenge like this and the dedication involved in getting up and getting out there to make sure you’re fully ready is incredible.

“I can’t wait to cheer everyone on and to see the amazing difference the money raised makes to the lives of local people experiencing homelessness and poverty.

“If you’re not able to take on your own challenge like Bronte, please do consider sponsoring her.  Even a pound or two will help as we take even more steps to improve the lives of local people for the long-term.”
