We’re really thrilled that our team has been recognised at this year’s Spirit of Manchester Awards, run by Manchester Community Central.

We won a very special accolade in the prestigious awards which celebrate and highlight all the excellent work being carried out in Manchester’s voluntary and community sector.

Our team was delighted to win the partnership and collaboration category for our homeless health hubs project – especially as much of our work involves working closely with individuals, businesses, charities and other organisations from across Greater Manchester and beyond.

The homeless health hubs were set up following an audit we ran in 2024 that looked at the health and wellbeing of people experiencing homelessness locally and to receive this award in celebration of the hard work involved is something we’re really proud of.

The hubs bring together various partners, from GPs and nurses to opticians, drug and alcohol workers, and much more. They all provide care and support for people who need it and – most importantly – give a cohesive, joined up approach to helping them improve their health and wellbeing.

Patrick O’Dowd, our director, said:  “What a great recognition for the team – we’re so proud to have this innovative project recognised in this way.

“Volunteers are at the heart of this annual award ceremony and they’re at the heart of our work too.  We simply couldn’t do what we do without them and they help us in so many ways, including supporting our teams across our homeless health hubs.

“People experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless tend to have poorer outcomes when it comes to their health and wellbeing so our services have a holistic view to working alongside them to help improve their experiences.

“Partnering with others is incredibly important and so many other charities, organisations and health care professionals join us at the health hubs to help do just that.  We are really grateful and this award is recognition not just for the Caritas Salford team, but for everyone involved in that wider collaboration too.

“Thank you to everyone who voted and to everyone who continues to support our work too.  It really does help people facing acute crisis at a time they need it most, and helps them as they transform their lives for the long-term too.”
