A blooming brilliant afternoon on the allotment

Thanks to everyone who joined us for the special open afternoon event at our Caritas Lalley community allotment at the weekend.

It was a beautiful sunny day and we were really pleased to welcome so many people to join us.

The free event, which took place on Saturday afternoon, was funded by the environmental charity Hubbub.

It included a live band, children’s garden games, make your own pizza activity, free tea, coffee and other refreshments, as well as gardening activities and much more.

It was a brilliant opportunity for people to meet others and to see the allotment in bloom too.

On our community allotment, the team of staff, volunteers and others who drop by grow a range of organic foods for our community pantry next door, helping people accessing that service eat more healthy and tasty vegetables that would come at a premium in shops.  

It’s a great place for people to come to improve their wellbeing and learn new skills by getting involved directly – or to just enjoy being outside with a brew.   

It’s also a lovely calming space for nature in the city, as we actively try to improve the variety of habitats and food sources for pollinators, birds and all other living things.  

If you weren’t able to come along to see us at the weekend, don’t worry, we’d still love to welcome you to the allotment.
