Supporting Mike*

Mike attended Red Door and advised us he was rough sleeping. He had poor mental health and struggled with substance misuse.

He also was not in receipt of any welfare benefits.

The team was able to link the man with the Bury Rough Sleepers Team and a homeless application was made.

They also completed a referral to Achieve (Bury drug and alcohol service) and supported him to apply for Universal Credit and Personal Independence Payment (PIP).

He secured temporary accommodation and later moved into his own flat.

He is now clean of all substances due to support from Achieve.

He received an award of PIP and Universal Credit.

The Red Door team also helped him set up all his household bills and budget his income, to ensure bills are paid.

He now volunteers at Red Door as a community volunteer supporting others who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

Where your money goes

It costs £12,000 per day to provide the level of service and support being delivered in Caritas projects across Greater Manchester and Lancashire.

Which means that everyone who needs it is able to access urgent practical help required, as well as any advice and support that will help them for the long term.

Every single donation matters because it means nobody is turned away or left behind.

These are just some examples of how your donation could be used to provide critical support – right now – or help someone begin to transform their own life with dignity.
