Make a change to change a life this Lent

The season of Lent provides us all with an opportunity to take a step back and reflect. Here, Patrick O’Dowd, our director, asks how you’ll make a change to change a life this Lent…

At Lent, as we re-focus and pause our busy lives, we often think of ways we can take action. We stop, pray, fast and give. We give alms and we give our time and thoughts to those who need it too.

This year, as Lent approaches, we’re asking if you can please join us in spreading that positive action in your local community? Will you please make a change that will change a life?

Whether you’re making a change to your diet, fasting, amending your behaviour or adapting your thoughts and focus, the change you’re pledging could also help us to work alongside someone locally facing acute crisis. It could give them support through a difficult time. It could help them to transform their life, step by step, and change their future too.

The cost-of-living crisis continues to hit our local communities hard. The words have been said so many times that they are almost losing meaning. But, as our teams working hard in those communities know, the impact is very real indeed.

Hardworking families have been thrown into situations they never imagined possible, where they’re struggling to keep a warm, safe space to call their home and aren’t able to feed their children every day. They come to us for help to wash their clothes, for advice on managing their soaring bills, or for assistance when they’re threatened with homelessness.

We’re committed to not just raising awareness of the need for change, but to being part of driving that change with practical action and by calling for justice to enable a sustainable long-term difference to be made too.

So, as we all take the opportunity during Lent to stand back and take stock, and as we give importance to prayer, fasting and almsgiving, it’s a good time to think more about how we are supporting people in our communities too.

By remembering Caritas Salford this Lent, your donations and prayers will make a real difference to the lives of the local people in Greater Manchester and Lancashire we work alongside.

Will you please pledge to make a change to help them to change their lives with dignity?

There are lots of ways you can help support this Lent, whether by making a donation, collecting coins in your St Joseph’s Penny appeal money box, spreading the word about our work, volunteering your time, sharing our free resources, and keeping Caritas Salford and the people we work alongside in your prayers.

You can find out more on the Lent appeal page on our website now.

Thank you in advance for your support.  As a charity that relies on the kindness of our local communities to continue our work, we’re hugely grateful if you think of us.

It really does make a huge difference to the lives of local people.
