Lalley team puts best foot forward for National Walking Month
A team from the Caritas Lalley Centre, Community Pantry and Allotment will be taking on a very special challenge for National Walking Month this May.
Members of the team of staff, volunteers and people who access the Lalley Centre services, have pledged to each walk between 5,000 and 10,000 steps each day of May to raise money for our charity.
Raddon, from the Lalley team, said: “We’re going to be undertaking our Every Step challenge to encourage others to experience the benefits of walking each day, for both physical and mental health. If we can raise some funds by doing it to help continue running our essential services for people in North Manchester, all the better!”
The challenge is part of our Every Step campaign, which is asking people from across Greater Manchester, Lancashire and beyond, to consider doing something which pushes them out of their comfort zone this year. This can be something physical or mental – anything goes as long as it is a challenge for the person taking it on.
Patrick O’Dowd, our director, said: “It’s brilliant to see so many people coming up with ways to push themselves out of their comfort zone to join the Every Step campaign this year. From bake-offs to book-athons, sponsored walks to running challenges, there’s so much planned and it’s been amazing to see everyone using their imagination and coming up with their own unique take on the theme.
“It’s a really tough time for many at the moment, with the cost-of-living crisis meaning that demand for many of our services, including those delivered by the Lalley Centre team, is really high. People are facing acute crisis and we aim to work alongside them to help them transform their lives with dignity.
“All of the funds raised through this challenge, and all of the other donations we receive really do make a huge, huge difference to the lives of people we work alongside. Thanks to everyone taking part. It’s really appreciated.”
