Some of our Volunteers

  • John, Caritas Shop & Community Drop-In Volunteer

“I started volunteering after my wife died, and was overwhelmed by the love I was shown, and so pleased to be part of the family as we, in turn, help others.”

  • Bernadette

    Volunteering at Bury Red Door:

Bernadette is one of Red Door’s wonderful volunteers. She was looking for a volunteering opportunity and knocked on our door to see what we do and whether she could help.

As someone who is interested in people, she enjoys talking to the clients and hearing their stories, but she is also happy to do the “backstage” jobs, like putting away the food donations, making a brew, and taking care of anything else that needs doing.

    Would you recommend volunteering?

I would definitely recommend volunteering!  Mahatma Gandhi said “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in service to others.” I do believe this is true.  I would especially encourage people who have a particular skill set to put themselves out there. Their qualifications can make a huge difference in people’s lives when they are seeking advice in desperate circumstances. I appreciate Caritas taking the time and energy to take my desire to get involved in the community seriously by finding me a place to give of my time and talents!
