Some of our Volunteers
Volunteering at Bury Red Door:
The role is very varied; I help with lots of office work and help with fundraising before the centre opens. I make brews and talk with service users during the drop in session. I am also on the steering committee which I enjoy as it enables me to feel really involved with the project as a whole.
Spending time getting to know the service users, is one of the aspects of volunteering that I enjoy most. At first it can be difficult as they don’t know you but once they get to know you they start to open up and you can actually make difference to someone’s day.
Would you recommend volunteering?
I would definitely recommend volunteering! Mahatma Gandhi said; “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in service to others” I do believe this is true. I would especially encourage people, who have a particular skill set, to put themselves out there. Their qualifications can make a huge difference in people’s lives when they are seeking advice in desperate circumstances. I appreciate Caritas taking the time and energy to take my desire to get involved in the community seriously by finding me a place to give of my time and talents!
Volunteering at Cornerstone:
Larry is an important and valuable member of the Team and attends Cornerstone 5 days a week as a volunteer driver. His duties are picking up food from various Supermarkets and Cash and Carry Stores as well as other duties which the Manager entrusts to him.
