MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Play a central role in delivering against Caritas local advocacy and policy objectives.

Research and prepare policy briefings about priority social policies and problems affecting people across the Diocese of Salford.

Maintaining an awareness of potential and upcoming issues across communities.

Ensure that those with lived-experience of these social problems are directly engaged within policy and advocacy work through a process of authentic co-production.

Working with staff and volunteers across the Diocese of Salford, and when appropriate national partners, to lead on delivering campaigns and events which support Caritas’s priorities and deliver measurable improved outcomes.

Develop both stand-alone and in partnership campaigns, programmes and events to support advocacy on behalf of those experiencing social problems. This will include influencing people within the Catholic community, particularly schools and parishes, and campaigns to address wider issues.

Engage with elected representatives and local authority officers to represent a Catholic vision and influence local decision-makers to improve the outcomes for those experiencing poverty, disadvantage, discrimination and isolation.

Lead on relationships with core policy and advocacy partners e.g. Caritas Social Action Network, Greater Manchester Citizens, Greater Manchester Poverty Action, local VCSE infrastructure agencies and charitable organisations and promote a culture of partnership, ecumenism and interfaith cooperation on social matters.

Subject to funding, commission independent research into social policies and problems in 13 local authority areas.

Support Caritas’s role in communications throughout the Diocese of Salford.

Develop and line manage a small team of Caritas volunteers engaged in policy, advocacy and research work.

Represent Caritas in key meetings, forums and other groups with stakeholders to influence policy and practice and develop collaborative partnerships.

Building on existing practice, ensure the co-ordination and tracking of advocacy activities across the across all services and projects, supporting senior managers and service leads in their own issue-based advocacy.

Work with the Director and Income Development Manager to secure funding for policy and research activities.

Ensure compliance with regulations and internal policies and procedures for storing and managing personal data.
