Dinosaur® School

Target population: Key Stage 1 and 2. For children who have been diagnosed with ADHD, social withdrawal and developmental delay.
Number of pupils: Groups of 4- 6 pupils
Duration: 2 hour delivery per week. 18 week programme for pupils + 3 parent sessions throughout the programme
Evaluation tools used to measure impact: Pre meeting for Parents/Carers, My Star, Teacher SDQ
School to provide: Referral and consent form, Teacher evaluations, Suitable room with TV/Smartboard, Co-leader for the duration of the programme

 

 

The Dinosaur® Social Skills and Problem Solving curriculum is part of the Incredible Years Model. It is a child training curriculum that strengthens children’s social, emotional and academic competencies such as understanding and communicating feelings, using effective problem solving strategies, managing anger, practising friendship and conversational skills, as well as appropriate classroom behaviours. The model is specifically designed for children aged 4-8 years. It can support children whom have a variety of problems including ADHD, social withdrawal and developmental delay.

In the sessions group leaders use skills and strategies such as praise, incentive systems, distractions, redirections, use of differential attention and ignore for targeted negative behaviours, Time Out for aggression, and logical consequences.
