Caritas Connecting Older People (CCOP) includes the previous services of St Joseph’s Welfare, our befriending services, and our local partnership workings for events and development sessions. Caritas has supported older people in North Manchester for over 40 years.
Based in Collyhurst, CCOP supports older people in our community by promoting independence, reducing isolation and empowering through connections, practical support and activities. We currently support people over the age of 50 who are in North Manchester, delivering a very highly valued visiting and support service for people with limited mobility, declining coping capacity and poor mental health
Help varies from a friendly ‘chat and check’ to escorting the client on their weekly shop and other regular activities, such as supporting discussions with the Housing Department, the Benefits Agency, contact with GPs/Consultants and lifts to a range of appointments.
A service funded by the local council, clients are referred through Adult Social Services, Community Health to boost care packages, or people can self-refer, to gain good neighbourhood support where no statutory help is given.
