Deaf Awareness Week will take place this year between 4th – 9th May.

Our service, St Joseph’s Mission to Deaf People, has been running for over 90 years.  It had to adapt to respond to the needs of its community during the pandemic, to help them to continue their faith journeys.

Now, in preparation for Deaf Awareness Week 2022, Peter McDonough (who helps to lead the service) is providing colleagues in other services at Caritas Salford with some taster sessions in British Sign Language (BSL) taster sessions.

The week will enable Caritas to continue to promote the positivity of living with deafness, bring awareness to the isolation that deaf people can experience, whilst promoting social inclusion of those with hearing loss.
