Caritas partners launch toolkit ‘Reaching Out’ to older people

On 4th December staff from Caritas Salford’s Older People’s Service joined Cardinal Vincent Nichols, Bishop John Arnold and Bishop Terence Drainey, along with professionals working with older people, for the launch of the Caritas Embrace toolkit Reaching Out. The toolkit is a result of a two-year project that Caritas has been delivering with other partners to offer parishes ways to build confidence in forming activities with older people. Methods used are based on the results of practice development in parishes and deaneries, facilitated by Caritas Salford, Catholic Care (Diocese of Leeds) and Father Hudson’s Care.

Encouragement from Bishop John and organisations in the Church will help us move from the Embrace pilot to more platforms for future work with communities and care providers. The work of our own Caritas Older People’s Service is already doing just that – building on the foundations laid by the religious in our diocese and reaching out to the wider Catholic, Christian, Faith and secular communities, and their organisations.
