Supported by Christ’s love for all people we aim to make a positive and unconditional difference to the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of all people experiencing social disadvantage and need.

Caritas has a core purpose which is ‘the promotion of social justice and other charitable acts which promote the development of individuals and communities for the public benefit, for the benefit of people of all faiths and none’. The charity’s powers state that we should ‘advocate on behalf of those individuals whose voice is not or cannot be heard’ and bring together those concerned with ‘the spiritual wellbeing of people of people and issues concerning poverty, social justice and care for people in need’.

Caritas Diocese of Salford aims are:

To respond to the identified needs of children, young people, adults and elderly people who require additional support and help to live fulfilled and happy lives.

To provide rapid and effective relief to people who experience poverty and hardship.

To give priority to helping people who cannot find adequate help or any help at all through their personal contacts or through existing statutory social services systems.

To advocate for and with members of the community who need help to to have their needs recognised.

To commit our resources to people who live on the fringes of society whose voice is small; migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, destitute & homeless people and all on the margins of society.

To encourage people to take charge of their own lives by supporting people and local initiatives that improves the living conditions of disadvantaged people.

To offer our help and support to people in need unconditionally and independently of religion, nationality and political opinion.
