St Joseph’s Penny Appeal Begins!

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintEmail

Today is Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent and the start of the St Joseph’s Penny Lenten Appeal, first collected in 1909. We can’t think of any other appeal that has lasted for so many years – 103 to be precise!

Thousands and thousands of school children across the diocese will be assembling their penny boxes to begin the collection as part of their Lenten celebrations. Look forward to stories in the coming weeks of children living the sprit of Christian giving by going the extra mile to support vulnerable children and young people in the Diocese. If you have a story to tell about your pupils, please get in touch! Email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Although it’s run in Catholic primary and secondary schools, it’s not just for kids! Many adults will remember the Catholic Children’s Rescue Penny boxes fondly. If you would like to continue your support of the appeal, please donate online – sure they’re digital pennies, but every single one will go to help the Young Parent’s Service, which is facing considerable council funding cuts!

Thank you for your support!
